The German Red Cross Society (GRC) takes the protection of personal data very seriously. We would like you to know, what data we save, when and how we use that data. We have taken technical and organizational measures to ensure that the statutory regulations on data privacy and protection are observed both by us and by our external service providers. Compliance with applicable data protection law is subject to constant review by our Data Protection Officer.
Personal data is information that relates to you as an individual. This includes details such as your real name, address, postal address, telephone number and email address. It does not include information that cannot be directly associated with your real identity (for example, time spent on the website or the number of users of the website).
You can view our online donations web page as a matter of principle without disclosing your identity. However, if you wish to make a donation, we shall request you to provide your name and other personal information in order to be able to process the online donation. You are free to decide whether you use our online donation form.
While you are using our donation form there is an SSL connection between your device and our provider. Your details are then transmitted by the server via a secure connection. The data will then be processed by our donation service team and the donation is charged through the Bank für Sozialwirtschaft (Bank for the Social Economy) in Cologne.
If you are in Germany, you can apply for membership with one of our branch societies using our membership application website. This web page can also be visited without disclosing your details. If you are interested in becoming a member of the German Red Cross, we do, however, need your name, your date of birth, your postal address, email address and phone number. This data is passed on with your consent to the branch society of your choice, so that your membership application can be processed. Should you not give your consent to pass on the data, your application cannot be processed.
When using our membership application website, we also guarantee a secure connection. Storage and use of your data is performed exclusively by the branch society chosen within the application form.
You can also give your consent for synchronising your data with the donor database. If you are already registered as a donor, it is possible to address you more personally and also to show appreciation for your previous commitment. If you do not wish data synchronisation, your membership application will still be processed.
Right of objection to the use of data
However, in your capacity as the person affected you can object at any time to the use of your data in accordance with the data protection regulations. If you unsubscribe on the GRC homepage (cover page) from the GRC Newsletter, or if you contact our donation service either in writing or by mail, we shall unsubscribe you immediately from this information service.
Under certain conditions you have a right to the correction, barring and deletion of the data stored by us, either in your capacity as a donor or in your capacity as a user of the membership application website. Please let us know about any concerns you may have, stating your full address, and write to: spenderservice(at)drk.de. You have the right at any time to receive information about the data stored in relation to you personally, its origin, recipients and the purpose of the data processing.
Technical standards – secure transfer
For data transfer we use the so-called SSL security system (Secure Socket Layer) in conjunction with 128-bit encryption. This technology provides the highest level of security and is therefore also used, for example, by banks for the purpose of data protection in online banking. You will recognise that the data is being transferred in encrypted form by the key or closed padlock icon visible in the status bar of your browser.
Our measures are continually adapted to the state of the art whenever there are changes. Nevertheless, we draw attention to the fact that data protection for the transfer of data within the Internet cannot be comprehensively guaranteed with the present state of the art. Under certain circumstances other Internet users may be technically capable to interfere without authorisation in the network security and to control communication.
The online content provided by us contains links to other websites. We have no control over the compliance of the operators of those websites with the data protection regulations. We also have no influence whatsoever on the legality of the content of those websites. We therefore reject any responsibility whatsoever for the content of other websites.

Disclosure of personal information to third parties
Your personal data will only be processed within the GRC and associated companies for the donation service and direct debit processing. Other than that we do not disclose your data to third parties. The membership application website is an exception to this, because your data is forwarded for processing purposes to the branch society of your choice.
